Falconry is not what you might see at a local display, or falconry centre, although the people who display may well be falconers. Those who hunt with short-wings or the true hawks are austringers. The result is a prolific amount of harris hawks up for sale, unwanted, spoilt and miserable because their owners did not research their needs before buying. Writing this is unlikely to change anything because the fickle don’t read first. However, when you see a cheap hawk for sale, you need to stop and think about the owner. They advertise on this site occasionally, with “hawk wanted” and two months later ask to place “hawk for sale, excellent hunter on fur and feather etc, job change forces sale.” Another month passes and the cycle start again.
